David Familian
David Familian is the Artistic Director and Curator of the Beall Center for Art + Technology at the University of California at Irvine (UCI) where he has curated solo exhibitions of artists including Shih Chieh Huang, Golan Levin, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Chico MacMurtrie, Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, Nam June Paik, Paul Vanouse and Victoria Vesna and numerous thematic group shows including DataViz, Live!, Objects of Wonder, and WetWare, among others.
 
In 2012 Familian spearheaded Black Box Projects, an ongoing series of residencies and exhibitions of artists collaborating with scientists in areas such as bio-art, cognitive robotics, computational genetics and information sciences.
 
Familian started his career as a photographer and in 1990 began working in digital media which is integral to both his artistic and curatorial practices. He received his BFA from California Institute of the Arts and his MFA from UCLA. Additionaly, he has taught studio art and critical theory in art schools and universities around the country, including Otis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Santa Clara University, San Francisco Art Institute and UC Irvine. 
 
David Familian is resident at Fire Station in June 2016.
