3D SCANNING: The EinScan H

The EinScan H is a professional industry standard 3D scanner. A new resource at FSAS ideal for artists exploring high quality 3D scanning for virtual reality, 3D modelling and printing projects. With its built-in color camera and large field of view, the EinScan H provides high quality 3D data with full colour and texture reproduction.

The course will cover and demonstrate how to use the EinScan 3D Scanner, its required software, capability and technical workflow for scanning the human figure and objects. You will be guided on how to output a high-resolution mesh for 3D modelling and printing, to gain a full understanding of the technical workflow for 3D scanning projects.

This course has been designed and will be lead by 3D Technical Design Executive Martin Downey from 3D Technology Ltd. An alumni of NUI Galway and awardee of EY Design Thinking Scholarship, he has built his knowledge of 3D Scanning through industrial experience with real world projects.

3D Technology is an Irish owned, Irish based company which provides 3D Printers and Scanners from their partners 3D Systems, Markforged, and SHINING 3D. Through its team’s extensive experience, the company is a market leader in CAD design and reverse engineering. As an innovative start-up, the company has continued to evolve to an ever-changing landscape with the launch of a new subsidiary, MedScan3D which is focused specifically on the medical device market. So from mechanical to the biomedical, 3D Technology has additive manufacturing covered. 

 

Format:

The course will be broadcast live and online where you will see live demonstrations and follow the technical direction of the course leader when learning the software.

Requirements:

- To have access to a mac or pc. This is essential.

- To be able to view the course leaders shared screen, and to follow their lead throughout the course, it is advised where possible to have access to a 2nd monitor or screen. Not essential but desired. A second monitor can be another laptop or a home TV to connect your computer to.

- To be comfortable with learning software. If you have basic experience with technical software such as photoshop, editing, or even 3D software, this will be of benefit, but not essential.

- To have a focused interest in the application of 3D and virtual technology for the development of your professional visual art practice is desired.

Virtual Tours: 360 Walkthroughs

This newly programmed course will look at the potential virtual tours and immersive technology has as a medium for engaging with and showcasing projects, exhibitions, or artworks. The course will involve an in-depth tutorial on how to shoot and create 360 immersive and interactive spaces with stills and video using a 360 camera, how to use the software to create a dynamic virtual tour, and how you can integrate your own work into a VR tour.

Participants of the course will learn how to create their own virtual tour using images and content that will be provided in advance. The aim of the course is to support visual artists to explore engaging ways to realise their work and projects using new and developing technology that is accessible and user friendly.

Course Content:

Introduction to VR Tours

•           Explaining what a VR tour is, different use cases and showing some examples or how VR tours can be used in different ways

Introduction to 360 Cameras

•           Explaining what a 360 camera is, how it is different from normal cameras and what you need to consider when using one

How to Use a 360 Camera

•           Step by step process on how to shoot 360 photos for a VR tour including setting for different scenarios.

VR Tour Software Options

•           Describing your options for creating a VR tour. The different types of software available, their capabilities and difficulty.

Creating a Basic VR Tour

•           Step by step process on how to create a VR tour using user friendly and freely accessible software.

Making Your Tour More Dynamic

•           Step by step guide of how to make your VR tour personal, dynamic and useful for your specific audience. How to share and promote it

Using VR in Video

•           How to shoot VR video & how to combine VR video with standard images.  

 

Requirements

- To have Adobe Premiere Pro (free trail) installed onto your computer in advance. If you do not have Adobe Premiere Pro, you can sign up to a free trail before the course. Adobe Premiere Pro software will be used to work with 360 video content provided.

- To have some basic experience with video and photo editing.

- Experience with 360 stills and video media is not essential, but experience with using photography and video generally in your practice is desired.

 

Daniel Pharaoh Bio:

Daniel Pharaoh runs a popular YouTube channel focussing on immersive technology & virtual reality. He has worked with companies such as Google & Ricoh to create immersive experiences and has delivered courses in an educational context for a broad range of institutions and organisations.

DA VINCI RESOLVE - BEGINNERS GUIDE

SESSION 1 - 3RD APRIL: MEDIA, INTERFACE, & EDITING

SESSION 2 - 10TH APRIL: COLOR & EFFECTS

SESSION 3 - 17TH APRIL: FAIRLIGHT, SOUND DESIGN, & ADR 

About:

This year’s DaVinci Resolve course will be delivered over 3 sessions. Session 1 will introduce you to the interface and techniques with video editing. Session 2 will focus on DaVinci's colour page where you will learn skills with color control and effects. Session 3 will be dedicated to sound where you will be guide on how to edit sound and learn ADR methods for voice over and narration.

DaVinci Resolve is an industry leading software solution that combines professional video editing, color correction, visual effects, and sound design in one powerful software that is both Mac and PC compatible. Ideal for artists working with moving-image and sound.

To get the full experience, it is advised to follow sessions 1 – 3. However, in the case where you have previously completed at DaVinci Resolve course at FSAS, you may select the session which most interests you.

 

Requirements:

- To have access to a mac or pc. This is essential.

- To have DaVinci Resolve (free version) software installed onto your computer.

- Ensure you can install a free version of DaVinci Resolve software onto your computer before committing to the course.

- You may work with DaVinci Resolve 16 or the newly updated 17 for this course.

- For this course it will be advised to work with a second monitor. A second monitor can be a second laptop, or a second TV/monitor connected to your computer system. This is to ensure you can follow the tutors guidance and also view your own work.

- To be comfortable with video and photo editing software.

- If you have not worked with DaVinci Resolve before, but have worked with FCPX or Adobe, you should be comfortable to follow the course.

- Course content and media will be provided by the tutor in advance.

- To ensure that your computer has a minimum of 10-15GB desktop space free.

Michael Healy Bio:

Michael Healy is a post-production trainer with significant experience delivering classes based around editing, audio, visual effects and colour grading. He currently teaches on both the BA in Film Practice and MA in Editing and Post-Production at London South Bank University whilst also delivering training classes for MET Film School, Academy Class, SAE Institute and Royal Holloway, University of London. He is an accredited trainer for both AVID Media Composer and Blackmagic Design working with the latter to deliver courses based around DaVinci Resolve."
