Mieke Vanmechelen

Mieke Vanmechelen’s ideas emerge from an embedded investigative process. A recurring theme is the interdependence of humans, animals and their environment. She takes a decentred, non-anthropocentric approach to the visual practice of the moving image and uses a process that combines formal cinematic techniques with an experimental stance toward filmmaking. She recently completed a documentary film called ‘Hungry Hill’ in collaboration with artist Michael Holly. The project was supported by an Arts Council Film Project Award and was filmed in and around Hungry Hill, the highest peak in the Caha Mountains on the Beara Peninsula in the southwest of Ireland.
