Exhibiting Moving Image with John Beattie

John Beattie Artist in Residence at The NA

Presented by visual artist and producer John Beattie, this introductory course will cover the installation of moving image and sound, planning and production methods, spatial considerations, and hardware and software requirements.

Goal:
To provide visual artists with a solid base to efficiently plan and strategize the production of new moving image work to suit specific exhibition imperatives, while expanding the scope of possibilities for such works.

About the Tutor:
John Beattie is a visual artist from Donegal, currently living and working in Dublin. His work examines cultural narratives, primarily through the lens of still and moving-image.

Recent exhibitions include Shadowing the Archives, Dublin Castle in collaboration with the National Archives of Ireland, funded by the Department of the Arts, 2023; Reconstructing Mondrian, his solo museum exhibition at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, 2023; and An Artist, The Studio, and all the rest… Part 1 and Part 2, exhibited as a solo exhibition at the RHA, Dublin, funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. His work is featured in public and private collections such as The Hugh Lane Gallery Collection, The Office of Public Works, and The Arts Council of Ireland Collection.

Beattie has worked independently with visual artists and cultural institutions as a technical advisor and consultant on many projects and exhibitions world-wide. Requirements:
Laptop (mac or PC) with a free trial version of Sketch Up software installed. A familiarity with moving image within your arts practice.
