Event: Curator Talk with Eszter Lázár, Weds 31 Jan at 5pm

22 January, 2024

When: Wednesday, 31 January at 5pm
Where: Project Space, Fire Station Artists’ Studios

The first of the 2024 International Curator Residents to visit FSAS, Eszter Lázár, as a member of the OFF-Biennale Budapest curatorial team, will share the main milestones in the history of the Biennale since its foundation and the next edition planned for spring 2025 while also discussing how the biennale can address the current cultural politics in Hungary.

OFF-Biennale Budapest started in 2014 as a grassroots initiative, set up by a small group of artists to create a platform for exchange between artists and other members of society as a means to testify to the independence, resilience, and capability of the local art scene in Hungary. Since then, OFF has become an internationally acclaimed event, with three successful editions and it also participated as a lumbung member at the documenta fifteen in Kassel 2022.

Eszter Lázár is a curator and associate professor based in Budapest. She holds a PhD in cultural studies. In addition to teaching in the Department of Art Theory & Curatorial Studies at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, she curates exhibitions and collaborates on projects (e.g. Residency Under Investigation at tranzit.sk, Bratislava, 2017; The Blue Room with artist duo Tehnica Schweiz, 2019). She was a researcher in the Film Section of the international RomArchive project. She joined the curatorial team of the OFF-Biennale Budapest in 2019 and with the collective, she took part in the documenta fifteen in 2022. She has been a senior researcher in the EU4ART_differences.
