The Sean and Rosemarie Mulcahy Visual Arts Residency Award: for a Socially Engaged Artist

Applications are now open for our fully funded 6-month residency, with a monthly stipend. This award has been developed thanks to the generosity of Irish patrons of the Arts, the late Sean and Rosemarie Mulcahy, the second award in a three-year commitment to this residency award.

FSAS has a strong commitment to community engagement and is proud of its Dublin 1 heritage and neighbourhood.  This commitment is emphasised by this first Sean & Rosemarie Mulcahy Award focussing on Socially Engaged practice. The inaugural awardee was Alisha Doody, you can find out more about Alisha’s practice here.

Applicants must be full time practising artists with a socially engaged practice, with projects and exhibition profiles. A Socially Engaged practice is understood to mean an artist whose work entails collaborative and participatory projects that engage with communities. A developed practice and methodology in this must be demonstrated in applications, outlining projects that have clear and sustained engagement or intention to embed enquiries in communities.

Eligibility:

  • Artists who have been awarded a residency at FSAS previously are ineligible to apply;

Testimonial

I spent just over 3 years at Fire Station Artists' Studios. Living in Dublin City Centre as an emerging artist would have been impossible for me, only for places like the Fire Station being in existence. Being centrally located for three formative years allowed me to build relationships with artists, curators, and peers.
